INGOLSTADT, GERMANY — Audi Sport has revealed its most technically ambitious road car yet: the new Audi RS5, marking the brand’s first step into plug-in hybrid performance at the highest level.

According to Audi Sport’s leadership, the RS5 is the most complex vehicle the RS division has ever engineered—pairing traditional internal combustion muscle with advanced electrification.
630bhp and a New Hybrid Formula
At the heart of the RS5 is a 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 producing 503bhp, joined by a 174bhp electric motor powered by a 25.9kWh battery. Combined output stands at 630bhp and 590lb ft of torque, enabling a 0–62mph sprint in just 3.6 seconds and a top speed of up to 177mph with the Sport pack.
Despite its performance credentials, Audi claims a combined fuel figure of up to 74mpg and an electric-only range of around 52 miles—placing the RS5 firmly in the new era of high-performance plug-in hybrids

Quattro, Reinvented
While Audi remains committed to quattro all-wheel drive, the RS5 introduces a radical evolution. A Torsen centre differential works with a world-first Dynamic Torque Vectoring system on the rear axle, allowing torque distribution of up to 85 percent to the rear.
The system is controlled by a high-voltage electric motor capable of reacting in just 15 milliseconds, delivering enhanced agility, sharper turn-in, and even a dedicated drift mode—an unusual trait for a traditionally grip-focused Audi RS model.
Chassis, Brakes, and Design
The RS5 rides on Audi’s PPE platform, with a body structure 10 percent stiffer than the standard A5. RS-specific suspension uses steel springs paired with advanced twin-valve dampers, while optional carbon-ceramic brakes—measuring up to 440mm—match hardware found on elite performance machines such as the Bentley Continental GT Speed and Lamborghini Urus.
Visually, the RS5 is 40mm wider than its A5 sibling, featuring aggressive aero elements, RS matrix lighting, and a distinctive chequered-flag rear light signature.
Weight vs. Technology
In Avant form, the RS5 tips the scales at 2,370kg—significantly heavier than rivals like the BMW M3 and Mercedes-AMG C63, with the Alfa Giulia Quadrifoglio also looming as a purist alternative.
Audi insists advanced torque vectoring, chassis tuning, and electrified assistance allow the RS5 to feel far lighter and more interactive than its weight suggests.
